On Thursday, a group of us made the trek past Minturn and down a curvy, bumpy dirt road for 8+ miles to the trailhead for Missouri Lakes. The hike was supposed to be about 10 miles round trip. The day began sunny and warm. We were in awe with the sights along our way. We were not expecting to see so many beautiful waterfalls and rivers! Each turn of the trail brought new wonders. We stopped and had lunch on a big rock overlooking one of the first lakes. Near the end of our lunch break, my hike mates took another look at their hike books and decided that it would be fun to go another mile or so to a nearby mountain pass. ("We've made it this far, what's another mile?") On our way to the pass, we were greeted by many more beautiful lakes. Around another corner and the pass was before us. Oddly enough, the path seemed to disappear into a pile of rocks. All of a sudden, our hike turned into a rock climbing expedition of sorts. About halfway up the pass, an afternoon storm began to move in. It started out as a sprinkle then turned into a soaking rain. It was so cold! At times it seemed that some of the raindrops were a bit more solid then plain 'ol rain. 7 hours after we began, we finally made it to the car a bit muddier then we had begun but with memories all the same.
