What would you do if you found out you only had 30 days left to live? Where would you go? Who would you make a point of spending quality time with? Would you change the way you interacted with the people around you?
When Tim McGraw debuted the song Live Like You Were Dying a few years ago, I doubt he could have ever imagined that it would one day be made into a book, a sermon series, and a curriculum for small group meetings. But here we are, embarking on the journey that so many other groups and churches have taken the last couple of years.
For the last couple of weeks we at the The Vail Church have been getting prepared for this powerful 30 day journey by joining small groups and taking time to really examine the way we live our daily lives. Andy and I met our small group at a BBQ last week and had our first meeting yesterday (Tuesday). So far our group seems really great! It is really nice to get to know other young married couples and by the sounds of it there will be plenty of opportunities to spend time together outside of our meetings and church services.
So for the next few weeks we will examine what it means to "speak sweeter, love deeper, give forgiveness, and embrace eternity" (all phrases from the song's chorus) At our first meeting though we spent time talking about second chances, places we want to see before dying, what we would be going through our mind if we were on a stretcher in the back of the ambulance, and the like.
It all has me thinking. How will I live differently for the next 30 days and how will I use the momentum from this series to impact the coming weeks, months, and years of my life? Time will tell.
