We are quickly discovering that the weather changes really quickly around here! While mom and Laura were here the weather was beautiful-sunny, blue skies, and temps in the 80's. Not two days later we woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of hail hitting the window. When the sun came up the next morning we could see that the mountains a few miles to the east were covered with snow. Oh, and it was absolutely freezing out!! We decided to explore the higher elevations to get a closer look at the white stuff and we were not disappointed. Well, Andy was slightly disappointed because Mt. Evans road, the highest paved road in North America, was closed due to snow. Although we read that the road was closed, we decided to drive down the road (or up as the case may be) until we found a gate across the road. After driving to an elevation of 13,001 ft we finally found the gate next to a really neat park and lake. The Summit Lake Park was under a layer of snow (maybe about a foot deep) but the lake was pretty. Even more beautiful though was the sunset over the snow-covered mountains. After a few pictures and a snowball fight, we made our way back down the mountain completely awestruck and amazed by all the beauty around us.
Oh, another note about crazy, quick changing weather: as far as we can tell, the snow in our area has pretty much melted, it is sunny out right now, and the forecast is calling for temperatures in the mid-80's once again!
